| Most patients find ACDF less painful than expected: the arm pain from the pinched nerve often improves right away, and the main early discomforts are a sore throat and mild difficulty swallowing that settle within days to a couple of weeks. Neck soreness is usually manageable with short-term, largely non-opioid pain control. |

What to expect after
A sore throat and swallowing fullness are the most common complaints early on, because the surgeon works from the front of the neck. These fade steadily.
Pain control
We use a multimodal, opioid-sparing plan and early mobilization, which keeps most patients comfortable and moving quickly.
